Animal Welfare Alliance sponsored the First Annual Paja Para los Perros (Straw for Dogs) event last year just before Christmas.

Helping us with the venture was Father Juan Montoya of St. John’s Catholic Church in Roswell. During services, Father Juan spoke about the importance of taking care of family pets and encouraged the congregation to visit with us after services.

Outside AWA members distributed straw to be used as winter bedding for pets, information on spay and neuter, and information on how to receive financial help to get pets spayed or neutered. All materials were available in Spanish and English.

Over 100 families took advantage of the straw and hopefully many of those will consider Spaying/Neutering. Next year AWA hopes to expand the program city wide. Not only are we trying to make the lives of outdoor pets a little better but we are educating the owners on the importance of spay and neuter.
