Other Ways to Help
TRAVEL OPPORTUNITIES
We now have animals leaving for distant locations nearly every week. We need people who are willing to help us get animals started on their journeys. If you're willing to drive an animal to Las Cruces, Albuquerque, Lubbock or beyond, you can be part of the exciting world of animal rescue.
VOLUNTEER
Contact the kennels and volunteer to help with cleaning, feeding, grooming, exercising. Or, just come in and visit with the animals. Dogs and cats are sentient, social, animals who thrive on love and give love back in return.
SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PETS!!!!!!
This is absolutely the best thing you can do to help us. It will also help your pet. Neutered male animals have a lower incidence of testicular cancer, prostate conditions and other health problems; they are less aggressive; and they tend to do less "marking of territory" (urinal spraying), and roaming. Spayed females have lower incidence of breast, and uterine cancer and other diseases, and they avoid the heavy toll that birthing has on their bodies, and unplanned litters.
I.D. YOUR PET
If your pet should become lost, it has a far greater chance of being returned to your if it is wearing some kind of I.D. This can be a collar tag, a tattoo, or some breeders are now implanting microchips.
REMEMBER:
The reason for a collar is a TAG!
95% of the lost pets found without a tag DO NOT get home!
95% of the lost pets found with a tag DO get home!
KEEP YOUR GATES LOCKED
We don't have to tell you how hard the wind blows here. Sometimes it's enough to jiggle the catches on fence gates causing them to blow open. Also, sometimes youngsters will open neighbors' gates as a sort of gag and let the pets out. If you keep a lock on your fence gate you will help keep your pets safely inside.
