Roswell Aircraft Fliers
February Newsletter
Winter is flying by ----->>>>>
Is it me, or did January just fly by? Wow. Soon the hot
days of summer will be staring us in the face. We have had several good
flying days the past month. Some not so pretty too. We will hope for more in
February. Of course the wind in the spring could be fun. Everybody have
their windy day airplane ready to go?
Meeting Agenda
The meeting will be held at Jim's shop. The meeting went well there last month. Lots of elbow room and good
attendance too. Just a little note, if you show up late, the room in the back
of the barn is where the meeting is held. So if you don't see anyone in the
shop, walk on through to the door in the back and that is where you will find
us. Sonny brought the model of the month(MOTM). The "official" rules for
MOTM is that it has to fly once to qualify, however if you want to show off
your new plane that has 0 time on it, we don't mind. Well, Sonny's didn't
qualify when it first came in the door. But with a little winding of the
rubber band, it was ready to go. It made several good flights. We watched a
DVD Sonny brought of Sky Dancing. Very impressive flying. Also had several
people pay dues.
I would also like to congratulate the members of the
committees. I said in the last newsletter Sonny was grabbing the bull by the
horns. He setup a list of committee members from the start. Unfortunately I
don't have this list available for publishing at the time of this writing. I
will hopefully get it updated in the RAF members only section. Perhaps I can
get it in the next newsletter.
I got un unofficial report there was some surveying of
possible flying sites done. So we will hear from the flying field committee
for sure. Other than that, we will have another MOTM hopefully. Also there
should be other discussions. So if you have a concern or other new business,
please bring it to the meeting.
Dues Reminder
For everyone who has paid their RAF club dues, we really
appreciate it. For everyone else, please get them in. If you can't make it
to the meeting, you can give the money to an officer at the field, or mail a
check to Jim
Membership Drive
It is still on gentlemen. The more members the stronger
the club. We have already had a couple of new members get us their dues.
Let's try to retain last years members as well as gaining more. All of us
know someone who said, "I'd like to try that" when they found out we fly
remote control airplanes. Well that is your opportunity to get them out to
the field and let the flying bug take over.
Who has been flying?
This Sunday afternoon, I can't imagine there will be too many
of us out there. Super Bowl Sunday. I personally just like the new
commercials. But I guess the game is something to see too. Go Cowboys!
Wait, they didn't make it did they. Oh, Dan, Denver didn't make it either by
the way...
Someone has come to the club, learned to fly in a few short
months, but now he is leaving. Abel, it's been fun. Wish Abel well if you
see him at the field the next weekend. He is moving to Alabama. Did we even
get his dues? Dang. We missed that chance.
Siavash is a new member into the club. We did get his dues.
He has flown before too. He bought a trainer and after I got it trimmed out
for him, he took to the sky and did many touch and goes. Unfortunately
that afternoon a very unfortunate mishap happened. What a mess. Well it has
since been made to resemble an airplane and is flying again.
Jim skipped out on us a couple of weekends. I'm sure he would
have rather been flying than sick though. He did show his face, sporting a
brand new rudder on his Extra. His rudder fell to an unfortunate blender
accident. The top of it flew off. He said him and pappy whittled that old
rudder off and stuck the new one on. Can't you just see him with Bartles and
James sitting on the front porch whistling and whittling away. Next thing
they are going to whittle them a smoke pipe.
We still haven't seen anything in the 40% scale from Sonny.
Maybe we will get an update on the progress. He did however get his little
foam electric flying. Seem like he thought it was a little thick on the
bottom though. I saw him do a belly scrub with it. I think he picked it back
up and flew it again.
Dan, Dan who?
Curtis is still flying his electric plane. I saw a line of
people behind him waiting for their chance to fly his little electric. I did
take my turn on the sticks and it was a whole lot of fun. I think everyone
should have one of those.
Mark and David are still having fun with their SPADs. They let
me fly one of them too. Very impressive for a minimum cost to get in the air.
I don't think Stan has had any wrecks this month. But it is
the dawn of a new month. Just kidding Stan. He did rebuild a wreck and did a
heck of a job too. Great flyer. If his wife keeps watching Lifetime and the
weather stays good, we might have a professional RC pilot on our hands.
Pete, have we seen Pete? Pete and Repeat were flying along.
Pete landed, who was left?
Sibolba got a few flights in on Duane Dahse's plane. He's not
a bad pilot. Sibolba that is.
The End
Of course if you would like to see something in the newsletter,
just let me know. I can put in for sale items. Little handy dandy tid-bits
of information. Classic stories of trial and error, mans inability to give up
or succeed for that matter. Just whatever. I guess I could get a letter from
the RAF President from time to time too. (hint, hint)
Take care everyone, and see you at the meeting.
